The base woods (walnut, maple, oak) in my work come from a farm near the little town of Wallburg, N.C.  Located just south of Winston Salem, this small farming community still holds it's small town charm.  Neighbors are good neighbors and you are always running into someone you know.

 

About 25 years or so back, my future grandfather-in-law harvested some walnut, maple, and oak timber that was destined for a cabin in the mountains.  Well, the cabin never materialized and the timber has been sitting in the pack house you see above ever since. 

 

 

After 17 years of asking, my grandfather-in-law finally sold me the timber. 

Naturally seasoned walnut and maple sit awaiting transition into works of art.  Rough cut, every piece of raw timber is a mystery to be revealed.  Years of dust and weathering hide the beauty of the grain beneath.
